Musk Announces: Tesla's Giant Semiconductor Chip Factory Terafab to Launch in 7 Days
Musk recently announced that Tesla's giant semiconductor chip factory Terafab, planned to be built in the US, will launch in 7 days. The factory is far larger than traditional ones, integrating logic AI chips, memory, and advanced packaging in one facility.
Its core goal is to meet Tesla's explosive AI computing power needs, providing self-produced chips for the Dojo supercomputer, FSD full self-driving, Optimus robots, and Robotaxi fleets, breaking away from dependence on external suppliers like TSMC and Samsung.
The factory's initial capacity is 100,000 wafers per month, which can eventually expand to 1 million wafers per month. It is expected to produce 100 to 200 billion chips annually, far exceeding the capacity of current mainstream factories like TSMC and Intel.
