Nearly half of US adults use AI chatbots, but public concerns are also rising
A new Pew Research Center survey shows that AI chatbots have become much more popular in the US. 49% of adults say they've used one, up from 33% in 2024. ChatGPT usage has doubled since 2023, now at 44%.
But people are still wary about AI. 63% think AI is developing too fast, and only 16% believe it will have a positive impact on society. Younger people use AI more but are also more worried: 66% of those aged 18-29 have used chatbots, and 48% think AI will have negative effects.
About 4 in 10 Americans now use AI for work tasks, with 30% saying it makes them more productive. However, concerns about misinformation remain high, with 66% of adults worried AI could spread false information.
