Nexperia China Achieves 12-inch Wafer Chip Production, a Feat Unavailable at Its Dutch Parent's European Facilities
Nexperia China, a subsidiary of Dutch semiconductor firm Nexperia, recently announced it has independently produced chips like bipolar discrete devices and Schottky rectifiers using 12-inch wafers. While these products are part of Nexperia's existing lineup, the 12-inch wafer production technology is not yet available at its Dutch parent's European facilities.
After the Dutch government's intervention in October 2025, Nexperia split, with its Chinese subsidiary operating independently. Following the Dutch side's halt of wafer supply, Nexperia China fully switched to domestic wafer sources (undisclosed, but WingSkySemi—owned by the founder of its parent Wingtai Technology—has a 12-inch fab in Shanghai and prior cooperation). The company aims to have 80% of its total capacity from domestic production by 2026.
