Norway's $2 Trillion Oil Fund Uses AI to Screen Ethical Risks in Investments, Enhancing Risk Detection Efficiency
Norway's $2 trillion oil fund, one of the world's largest investors, is using AI to screen for reputational and ethical risks in its investments. The fund has applied Anthropic's Claude AI model since November 2024 and fully deployed large language models in 2025 to screen new companies in its stock portfolio on their first day of inclusion.
AI tools can quickly scan a wide range of public information, including content not covered by traditional suppliers, and generate risk assessment reports within 24 hours. This helps the fund's team identify issues like forced labor and corruption early, sell risky assets before market reactions, and avoid potential losses. For small companies in emerging markets, AI also handles local language information, filling information gaps.
