Nvidia Restarts H200 Chip Production for China Market, Approved by Both US and China Governments
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced at the GTC 2026 conference that the company is restarting H200 chip production for the Chinese market. He stated that approvals from both US and Chinese governments have been obtained, with purchase orders from multiple Chinese clients already in hand, and the supply chain is gradually starting up—restart work began several weeks ago.
The H200 is based on Nvidia's previous-generation Hopper architecture, tailored for the Chinese market to meet US export restrictions. In April last year, the Trump administration required export licenses to China, leading Nvidia to set aside $55 billion in losses and suspend sales. The policy shifted in December last year, allowing resumption but with strict conditions: shipment limits, mandatory third-party testing, and a 25% sales share to the US government.
Huang previously predicted that Nvidia's Blackwell and Rubin series would generate over $1 trillion in revenue by 2027, but this target does not include H200 sales in China.
