NVIDIA's Vera CPU is 1.8x faster than x86 in single-core performance
NVIDIA recently announced its new CPU, the NVIDIA Vera, designed for the agent AI era. It handles tasks like tool calling, code execution, and data processing, with single-thread performance being key. NVIDIA claims Vera is the 'strongest single-threaded CPU at scale,' with its custom Olympus core delivering 50% more instructions per cycle than the previous Grace chip.
On specs, Vera offers up to 1.2TB/s of LPDDR5X memory bandwidth, memory power under 40 watts, and 3.4TB/s inter-core bandwidth. In tests, its single-core sustained performance is 1.8x that of x86 under heavy AI workloads. In a real coding task, Vera finished about 1.5x faster than x86, and its concurrent sandbox startup was up to 1.9x faster.
For data processing, Vera runs large-scale SQL analytics up to 3x faster than leading x86 server CPUs and cuts real-time streaming latency by up to 6 times. This performance could boost efficiency in agent AI applications.
