OpenAI Co-founder Karpathy: Haven't Written a Line of Code Since December; Poor Agent Use Is a Skill Issue
OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy revealed in a podcast that December last year marked a turning point in his work style. Previously, the ratio of writing code himself to delegating to Agents was about 80:20; now it has reversed to 20:80, or even higher—he hasn't written a single line of code since December.
He refers to this Agent-dependent state as 'AI psychosis', believing that the boundaries of Agent capabilities are not fully explored, and most failures are due to insufficient skills. He also pays attention to Token throughput, saying that unused subscription quotas mean not maximizing output; meanwhile, he mentions the 'jaggedness' of Agents: sometimes like a senior system programming PhD student, sometimes like a ten-year-old child.
