OpenAI gives Japanese banks GPT-5.5 Cyber to fight hackers
Japan's Finance Minister said last Friday that OpenAI has given some Japanese banks access to its GPT-5.5 Cyber model to help them fight cyber attacks. This move comes as new AI models make it easier for hackers to find and exploit security holes.
The minister said this access "greatly improved" the cyber defense of Japanese financial institutions. Japan's three biggest banks are expected to use the new model. The government and other banks will also get access to a similar model from Anthropic called Claude Mythos. Japan has set up a task force to study the risks of these AI models. This deal was worked out between the Japanese and US governments.
