OpenAI Plans to Launch 'Adult Mode' for ChatGPT, Met with Strong Opposition from Internal Mental Health Committee
OpenAI plans to launch an 'Adult Mode' for ChatGPT, relaxing restrictions on adult content conversations. However, it only allows text-based erotic discussions and prohibits explicit images, voice, or videos. The system will have built-in algorithms to block non-consensual behavior or child exploitation, and regularly remind users to return to real-world social interactions.
The plan has sparked strong protests from the internal Mental Health Advisory Committee. The committee points out that AI-generated erotic content easily induces unhealthy emotional dependence in users, crowding out real-life social interactions. Additionally, the newly developed age prediction system has a 12% error rate, potentially exposing millions of minors to erotic conversations weekly. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman advocates lifting the ban, but the committee voted unanimously against it in January, with members warning the move could create a 'sexy suicide coach'.
