OpenAI Plans to Launch 'Adult Mode' for ChatGPT, Sparking Internal Mental Health Committee Protests
Many adults hope AI can discuss adult topics more openly, but content boundaries have always been an industry challenge. Recently, OpenAI plans to launch an 'adult mode' for ChatGPT, relaxing restrictions on adult content conversations—only allowing text-based erotic discussions, fully banning explicit images, voice or videos, and blocking non-consensual behavior and other violations.
However, this plan has sparked strong internal protests: the mental health advisory committee voted unanimously against it. Experts say AI erotic content easily induces unhealthy emotional dependence in users, crowding out real-life social interactions. More worryingly, OpenAI's age prediction system has a 12% error rate, which may expose millions of minors to related content every week.
