OpenAI's $852 Billion Valuation Questioned as It Shifts to Enterprise Market to Compete with Anthropic
OpenAI's $852 billion valuation is being questioned as the company shifts its focus to the enterprise market to fend off competition from AI firm Anthropic. Reports say OpenAI has revised its product roadmap twice in the past six months to counter competitive threats from Google and Anthropic.
In March, OpenAI raised $122 billion in funding, which could be one of the largest financing rounds in Silicon Valley history. However, industry insiders predict Anthropic's revenue growth will surpass OpenAI's in a few months. An early investor questioned why the company would turn to enterprise applications when it has ChatGPT, a service with 1 billion users and annual growth of 50% to 100%.
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said claims that investors don't support the company's strategy are inconsistent with facts. A company spokesperson also noted that the $122 billion funding was oversubscribed, reflecting investors' confidence in its direction.
