OpenAI says US midterm elections won't affect its IPO plan
After the US midterm elections, Democrats took back control of Congress, and several Democratic candidates won governor races in Texas, Georgia and Ohio on promises to limit new data center construction. The policy environment for the AI industry is changing.
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar said in an interview that the election results had no major impact on the company. The IPO plan is not affected, and OpenAI will push ahead with its goal of going public next year.
Friar said OpenAI will not stop investing in large data centers, and the company is trying to rebrand these facilities as "computing campuses". Financially, OpenAI's Q3 revenue grew 70%, and enterprise sales doubled.
The company also recently released new "responsible AI infrastructure standards", promising to cover its own power use and grid upgrades, and no longer requiring officials to sign NDAs in most cases. Friar said going public fits its mission to share AI with everyone.
