Overusing AI Tools Leads to 'AI Brain Fatigue', Productivity Has Limits
A study in Harvard Business Review of 1488 U.S. corporate employees found that 14% reported 'AI brain fatigue' symptoms like confusion and headaches. Marketing industry had the highest rate (25.9%), while legal compliance had the lowest (about 6%).
The study showed using 1-2 AI tools significantly boosts productivity, but adding a third reduces the gain, and more than three tools decrease efficiency. Experts from Boston Consulting Group noted this is a special fatigue from high cognitive load, not ordinary burnout.
Experts suggest companies set AI usage policies, like daily limits, to balance efficiency and employee mental health. AI tools are positive, but their negative impacts need control to avoid over-reliance.
