Samsung Motor negotiates 500 billion won AI server MLCC supply deal with US company
Samsung Motor is in final talks with a major US cloud service provider to supply MLCCs for AI servers, with a contract worth about 500 billion won ($2.2 billion). MLCCs are key components used in electronics, and AI server demand is expected to push prices up by 50-60%.
The company also plans to set up a joint venture with Japan's Sumitomo Chemical to produce glass substrates for AI chips. Samsung will own over half of the JV, which will invest 500 billion won and start production by early 2028. The global MLCC market is dominated by Japanese and Korean firms, with Murata and Samsung together holding 85% of the high-end AI server segment.
Industry reports show the global MLCC market will reach 134.1 billion yuan in 2026 and 212.9 billion yuan by 2030. Japanese companies control 54% of the market, while Chinese mainland firms hold 10.2%. This move helps Samsung strengthen its position in the AI server supply chain.
