Seoul tests MCP service to let AI check public data in real time
Seoul says it will test MCP (Model Context Protocol) in public data services to make AI answers more accurate. Usually, AI models rely on old training data or internet search results, which can give wrong or outdated info.
With MCP, AI can check the latest government data directly. For example, if you ask "How crowded is Myeongdong now?" or "What's the air quality by the Han River?", it will show real-time answers instead of old web info. The city plans to turn its public data APIs into MCP interfaces so AI agents can use them easily.
During the test, 100 spots are available. People can apply via Kakao's PlayMCP platform. The service covers 121 areas in Seoul, including crowd levels, public transport, weather, and cultural events. Data updates every few seconds up to 5 minutes.
