Shenzhen fines firm 50,000 yuan for faking AI rankings
GEO (AI output optimization) has grown fast since AI chatbots went viral. Providers study how AI models answer, helping businesses get seen in AI replies. But problems have come along too.
The Shenzhen market regulator said one provider used a system to probe how AI models respond and pulled inclusion rules from AI platforms. It also made up fake industry ratings and spread them on social media to boost the odds of AI citing its ads. The firm was fined 50,000 yuan.
Regulators ruled this as false advertising under anti-unfair competition rules. In June, Beijing's Chaoyang district reported a similar case. A GEO provider faked scores and market share data and was fined the same amount.
Back-to-back fines show fake traffic in the AI content space is now on regulators' radar. Rules for "AI ads" are getting clearer.
