Spain approves AI bill with fines up to 35 million euros
Spain's cabinet approved a draft AI law on May 26, aiming to bring EU's AI Act into national law. It sets up a watchdog and penalty system, and pushes public sector to use AI. Violations are ranked as very serious, serious, or minor. The worst can lead to fines up to 35 million euros or 7% of a company's global yearly revenue. Minor ones face up to 500,000 euros or 0.5% of revenue. The bill also creates an AI usage list for government, appoints an AI commissioner, and builds a test sandbox for new AI tools.
