Tencent Hunyuan Open-Sources Mobile Offline Translation Model, 440MB Size with Better Quality Than Google Translate

Tencent Hunyuan recently open-sourced the mobile offline translation model Hy-MT1.5-1.8B-1.25bit, compressing a translation large model supporting 33 languages to 440MB. It can run locally on mobile phones without internet, and its translation quality is better than Google Translate.

The model uses Sherry sparse efficient ternary quantization technology for extreme compression, with an average of only 1.25 bits per parameter, suitable for ordinary phone memory; there is also a 2-bit version (574MB) for mid-to-high-end devices, balancing performance and quality.

This open source includes model weights, code, and technical reports, and also provides an Android demo (iOS support coming later). Users can download it to experience fully offline, zero-privacy-exposure translation services.
