Tencent launches Hy-MT2 translation model, works offline on phones
Tencent has open-sourced its new multilingual translation model Hy-MT2 and launched the Tencent Hy Translate mini-program. The model comes in three sizes: 1.8B, 7B, and 30B-A3B, supporting translation between 33 languages and 5 ethnic languages/dialects.
The lightweight 1.8B version needs only 440MB of storage, runs on phone chips from Apple, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, and is 1.5 times faster than the previous version. It outperforms major commercial APIs like Microsoft's. Users can translate offline without an internet connection.
The model also lets users customize translation style and instructions, such as making results concise. It is available on GitHub, Hugging Face, and ModelScope, and works with multiple chip brands.
