Turing Award Winner Yann LeCun's AMI Secures $1.03B Funding, Betting on World Models Over LLMs
Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI), a world model company founded by Turing Award winner and former Meta Chief AI Scientist Yann LeCun, has secured $1.03 billion in funding with a pre-money valuation of $3.5 billion. Headquartered in Paris, AMI will set up offices in New York, Montreal, and Singapore.
LeCun serves as executive chairman, while French serial entrepreneur Alexandre LeBrun (founder of AI medical assistant firm Nabla, AMI's first partner) is CEO. NYU assistant professor Saining Xie joins as chief science officer, with several ex-Meta FAIR members on the core team.
AMI uses LeCun's JEPA architecture, aiming to let AI learn abstract representations of the world instead of relying on text statistical patterns. LeCun once said: 'Don't build LLMs—breakthroughs won't come from scaling them up.' The company promises to publish papers and open-source much of its code.
