Turkey Investigates Google's AI Search Features
Turkey's competition authority has launched an investigation into Google's "AI Overviews" and "AI Mode" search features. The probe will check whether these tools break the country's Competition Protection Law. The authority says there are signs the AI features may unfairly shut out and exploit news publishers.
The investigation looks into several key points: Do the AI features change how people get information and hurt traffic for publishers? Do content deals with publishers contain unfair terms? Do these features push out publishers and other AI chatbots? Is content picked or licensed unfairly?
Besides the probe, the authority will also apply a temporary measure to control how Google uses news publishers' content in its AI-powered search. This shows regulators worldwide are tightening their watch on AI search tools.
