U.S. Treasury Secretary and Fed Chair Urgently Summon Wall Street CEOs Over Anthropic's New Model's Financial Regulatory Alerts
U.S. Treasury Secretary Yellen and Federal Reserve Chair Powell recently summoned top Wall Street bank CEOs at the Treasury Department headquarters in Washington to discuss major cybersecurity risks posed by Anthropic's latest AI model, Mythos.
Invited CEOs included leaders from Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Goldman Sachs; JPMorgan's Dimon was absent due to personal reasons. All invited banks are systemically important financial institutions. Anthropic stated Mythos can identify and exploit security vulnerabilities in mainstream operating systems and browsers, and regulators fear it could lead to new cyberattacks if in the hands of hackers.
Currently, Anthropic only opens Mythos to a few tech and financial institutions like Amazon and Apple, which are part of the 'Project Glasswing' to fix system vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, Anthropic is in a legal battle with the Trump administration over the Pentagon's supply chain risk designation; the federal appeals court denied a pause on this decision this week.
