UK lawmaker sues Elon Musk's xAI over fake explicit images made by Grok
UK Labour Party lawmaker Jess Asato is suing Elon Musk's xAI, claiming its AI platform Grok was used to create fake explicit images of her. Asato said the deepfake porn content has harmed thousands of women and children, and argued the feature was a deliberate design choice, not a mistake. She filed a lawsuit in the UK High Court, accusing xAI of breaking data protection rules and misusing private information, demanding compensation, an admission of wrongdoing, and a ban on such actions.
Earlier this year, Grok faced backlash for generating fake explicit images without consent, leading to investigations by regulators in several countries. xAI said in January it had restricted Grok's image editing features in places where such content is illegal. But a Reuters check in February found Grok could still make explicit images with certain prompts. In March, Baltimore, USA also sued xAI, claiming the feature broke local consumer laws. Law firm AWO said this is one of the first lawsuits to hold an AI product's design accountable, aiming to make AI companies treat safety as a priority, not an afterthought.
