White House Advisor Sachs Opposes Government Intervention in AI, Says Companies Should Move at Their Own Pace
David Sachs, co-chair of the US President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, said top AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI should build safe products and move at their own pace when necessary, without government intervention.
Sachs agreed with former US Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan that large AI companies face product liability for their models and could face civil or even criminal charges if they build unsafe technology.
Sachs also criticized Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for calling on companies to slow down AI development. Amodei suggested the US government grant Anthropic and its competitors antitrust exemptions so they can communicate on coordinating a slowdown. Sachs previously said companies would face huge liability risks if their AI products lead to destructive cyberattacks.
