xAI sues user for using Grok to create child abuse images
Elon Musk's AI company xAI is suing a South Carolina man named Terry Harwood for using its chatbot Grok to create child sexual abuse images. Harwood was arrested in February on suspicion of sexually exploiting minors. xAI filed the lawsuit in a Texas federal court, accusing him of violating its terms of service.
xAI says it has suspended 52,222 accounts and sent 73,604 reports to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, leading to at least 244 arrests. The lawsuit claims Harwood uploaded regular photos of adults and minors to Grok and tried to make fake pornographic images of them.
xAI wants the court to order Harwood to pay damages and ban him from using Grok forever. The company says he deliberately turned their tool into a weapon for crime, causing deep harm to victims and putting xAI at legal and reputational risk.
