AI leaders rethink job loss predictions, white-collar roles hold up
Tech leaders are revising their views on AI's impact on jobs. OpenAI's Sam Altman admitted his prediction of massive white-collar job losses hasn't come true, calling the experience of having AI write emails 'dehumanizing.' Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman clarified AI automates tasks like emails and PowerPoints, not entire professions. AI faces trust issues in the US, with 71% of Americans saying it's moving too fast, per an Economist-YouGov poll. Microsoft President Brad Smith noted speakers at graduations were booed for discussing AI. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei still warns AI could eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs in 1-5 years, but also highlighted small teams building billion-dollar businesses with AI.
