Amazon exec says AI has crossed the 'uncanny valley', viewers can't tell if content is AI-made
Albert Cheng, head of Amazon MGM Studios' AI studio, says AI has clearly passed the 'uncanny valley' stage. It's no longer just a clunky tool people can easily spot, but a real content-making ability for film and TV production. Regular viewers can hardly tell if content was made with AI.
He believes AI can help bring film production back to Los Angeles, especially for small and medium-sized projects. He suggests tax breaks should favor AI-assisted films and small teams. He'd rather see 10 films than one big-budget blockbuster.
Cheng warns the industry not to get carried away by AI's speed and convenience. He calls AI 'addictive' because it's faster and easier than traditional methods, but people still need to think about where to draw the line. Amazon MGM Studios has also approved three animated series from the GenAI Creator Fund for Prime Video.
