Anthropic Files for IPO, Promises No Ads in Claude Chats
Anthropic has filed its S-1 registration with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, planning an initial public offering of Class A common stock under the ticker "ANT" on Nasdaq. The AI company is now moving into the public listing process.
In the filing, Anthropic made a clear promise: Claude will never show ads in conversations. The company explained that people entrust Claude with important work and ask personal questions, and they want Claude's only goal to be providing helpful answers. Once ads become part of revenue goals, pressure to boost user engagement tends to grow, and the company chose to keep that pressure out of Claude.
Notably, Anthropic has previously criticized rival OpenAI for placing ads in ChatGPT, warning that this form of advertising may be more manipulative than traditional ads. This statement positions "no ads" as part of its product differentiation strategy.
