China Releases Its First National Standard for DPU
China Mobile Cloud says a new national standard for using data processing units (DPUs) in AI computing clusters has been officially released. It is the first national DPU standard in China.
The standard was led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, with tech companies like Tianyi Cloud, China Telecom, ZTE, Inspur and JD Technology taking part. It sets clear technical rules for building, deploying and managing DPUs, and gives users a shared reference for choosing and testing products.
The standard aims to fix common pain points: vendor solutions that don't match up, performance numbers that are hard to compare, weak compatibility, and no unified acceptance process. A DPU is a special chip that takes over tasks like networking and storage from servers. The industry hopes the standard will move things from solo competition toward shared standards and a stronger ecosystem.
