Shanghai Launches Star Hub Plan to Deploy 800 Computing Satellites

The 2026 Satellite Internet Industry Conference was held in Shanghai. At the event, Shanghai announced it will start setting up a satellite internet industry fund, jointly funded by local investment platforms and private capital to boost tech innovation.

Chi Nan, a senior official from Fudan University, unveiled the deployment plan for the Star Hub Plan. The project is led by Shanghai XingShu TianSuan Aerospace Technology and aims to process data directly in space, cutting reliance on ground equipment.

The plan has three phases: From 2026 to 2027, it will build space-ground computing links with domestic GPUs, reaching 32POPS of computing power and 200Gbps satellite communication speeds. From 2028 to 2030, it plans to launch 50 computing satellites and 100 edge computing satellites. By 2032, it aims to deploy 800 computing satellites and 200 edge satellites, with the industry's annual output targeting over 100 billion yuan.
