South African author publishes 371 books with AI, selling over 1 million copies

South African author Coral Hart used AI to publish 371 books in about 20 months. Her books have sold over 1 million copies, and she says her income since 2026 has passed 1 million US dollars. With 14 years in publishing, she wrote dozens of books on her own before, and one of her novels reached Amazon's top 100 bestsellers.

She does not just type one prompt and publish the result. She first works out the story idea, characters and chapter outlines. Then she uses a custom AI workflow to create a first draft. After several rounds of edits, human proofreaders remove any remaining AI traces.

Her methods have sparked debate. Some critics call her books "AI slop" and worry this lowers publishing standards. She has received tens of thousands of hateful messages and even death threats. She says strong sales prove her books meet real demand. She now trains other writers and plans to launch a software called Authorythm for AI writers.
