Apple's Siri AI won't launch on iOS and iPadOS in EU due to DMA rules
Apple announced Siri AI and new Apple Intelligence features at WWDC26. But they won't be available in China or on iOS and iPadOS in the EU for now.
Apple says the EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) requires AI to have almost unlimited access to user devices without user control, which is a big risk. Apple proposed a 'Trusted System Agent' solution, but the European Commission said no.
There's no timeline for Siri AI on EU iOS and iPadOS. Apple plans to roll out a new plan in the EU over 18 months. Hardware-wise, the new features work on supported devices, with the strongest on-device model limited to iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and M4 iPad or M3 Mac and later.
