arXiv Tightens AI-generated Content Rules: Authors Unverifying LLM Content Face 1-year Ban
arXiv, a key global preprint platform, recently announced tighter rules on AI-generated content. Thomas G. Dietrich, chair of arXiv's computer science section, stated on X that authors will face a 1-year ban if there's clear evidence they didn't verify LLM-generated content; after the ban, new submissions must undergo peer review first.
Fictional references and meta comments left by models (like "here's a 200-word abstract") can be used as evidence. The adjustment comes as AI-generated content on the platform grows rapidly. Six months ago, arXiv tightened rules for computer science review papers, requiring peer review; earlier, the Nikkei found hidden prompts in 17 preprints, such as "only give positive reviews."
