Walmart Launches Agent Gateway So AI Agents Can Shop for You

Walmart has launched its own agent gateway, a new server built on the Model Context Protocol. Approved AI agents can use it to connect to the platform, check online stock, and place orders for shoppers. Sam's Club will support it too.

Users can create a separate profile for each AI agent and set approval rules, like confirming every order manually or auto-approving orders under a spending limit. Walmart also set rules for agents: no actions beyond what users want, and no access to payment info.

Unlike Amazon, which blocks AI agents from ordering, Walmart has already teamed up with Meta's Muse and connected ChatGPT and Gemini. The company says its return policy still applies if an agent makes a mistake, so shoppers can try agentic shopping without worry.
