CATL founder: AI can pick 7 promising materials from thousands of compounds

At the 2026 World Laureates Forum, CATL founder Robin Zeng spoke in English about how the company uses AI to speed up energy research. Nearly 300 top scientists joined the forum in Shanghai.

Zeng said CATL has built up over 600TB of research data and more than 1 trillion test records. AI can screen thousands of compounds in a short time and lock in 7 promising materials, making battery research much faster.

He also noted that today's AI is still far from enough. More scientists and better models are needed to speed up new discoveries.

The forum focused on the next decade of scientific breakthroughs. Winners of the Nobel Prize, Turing Award and other top honors joined talks on research methods and global cooperation. AI-powered science became a hot topic at the event.
