ChatGPT's Web Traffic Share Drops Over 20% in a Year, Google Gemini Catches Up Quickly

ChatGPT's web traffic advantage is shrinking rapidly. According to the latest Similarweb data, its traffic share dropped from 77.6% a year ago to 53.7% now, a decrease of over 20%.

Google Gemini is the biggest winner, with its traffic share soaring from 7.3% to 26.7% in the same period; Anthropic's Claude also saw significant growth, rising from 1.4% to nearly 8%.

The data only counts web traffic. OpenAI and Anthropic's main revenue comes from channels not included in the statistics, such as API interfaces, programming tools, and mobile apps. Google can drive traffic to Gemini through Android and search, which may be an important reason for the current traffic pattern.
