China's first fully AI-made feature film earns 1.16 million yuan at the box office
According to Maoyan data, "Sanxingdui: Future Past," China's first fully AI-made feature film licensed for theaters, has earned 1.162 million yuan at the box office. The 100-minute film opened on October 23, and all characters are original digital figures with no digital copies of real actors.
The story is set in a future where humans hand over all decisions to algorithms, triggering a global crisis. The clues to solving it point to seven ancient symbols from Sanxingdui, creating a narrative of "answers in the past, crisis in the future."
The whole film was made with Bona's self-developed "Boca Cloud Studio." The team spent two years, produced over 1.2 million base images, and ran hundreds of full-film iterations. AI handled generation and execution, while creative ideas, script, and shot design came from Bona's AIGMS team. The crew had 17 professional roles with nearly 100 people.
