Google CEO admits AI search summaries can be too subjective, working on personalization and traffic balance
During a podcast interview, Google CEO Sundar Pichai tested the AI search feature live. When searching for "best Chromebook," the AI summary picked the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 as the top choice, but a natural result from Reddit below gave a different answer. Pichai admitted the AI summary was too subjective and that shouldn't happen.
Pichai explained the result might have been personalized based on the host's usage, so it's not a general case. Google is adding more AI features to search, like follow-up questions and an "intelligent assistant" that automatically searches for information, expected to launch this summer.
Since launching AI summaries, Google has added more web links. Pichai said the team focuses on meeting user needs while connecting them to content across the web. The changes have sparked debate, with some users not wanting overly personalized search and others worried about traffic loss for websites.
