Huang Renxun: China Has Crossed the Computing Power Threshold for Mythos-Level Model Training; Export Restrictions Will Accelerate Huawei's Rise
Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun strongly opposed AI chip export control policies in an interview, stating they not only fail to block China's AI capabilities but have already backfired.
Huang pointed out that China has abundant 7nm chip production capacity and cheap energy. AI training can use more older chips to compensate for performance gaps via parallel computing, having crossed the computing power threshold for Mythos-level model training. Huawei shipped millions of chips (far more than Anthropic has), and while its 2025 revenue was the second-highest in history, growth is notable.
DeepSeek is preparing to release its V4 model on Huawei Ascend chips. Chinese companies like Alibaba and ByteDance are buying large quantities of Huawei chips, driving prices up by about 20%. Huang warned that export controls accelerate the rise of China's local chip industry; if future AI models run best on non-US tech stacks, it will harm US competitiveness.
