Hugging Face CEO Questions Former Anthropic Researcher's AI Extinction Warning
Hugging Face CEO Clement Delangue has publicly questioned former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon's claims that AI could lead to human extinction. Coxon resigned on Tuesday, saying Anthropic and OpenAI are racing toward self-improving superintelligence and gambling with human lives.
Delangue responded on X, saying having Coxon discuss AI extinction risk is like having an AC repairman discuss climate change. He later clarified this was not meant to discredit Coxon, but to stress that any single view should be seen in a broader context.
Delangue noted that Coxon's work mainly focuses on pre-training rather than risk research, so a wider range of expert voices in the AI ecosystem should be heard.
