OpenAI Accelerates Development of First AI Agent Phone, Targets Mass Production in H1 2027
For many users, switching between apps to get things done is a daily hassle. What if your phone could directly execute tasks without opening multiple apps?
OpenAI is accelerating the development of its first AI Agent phone, with mass production targeted as early as the first half of 2027. MediaTek is likely to get the exclusive processor order, using a custom Dimensity 9600 chip produced by TSMC's N2P process in the second half of 2026.
Key specs include dual NPU (AI computing power layering), LPDDR6+UFS5.0 (to ease memory bottlenecks), and pKVM+inline hashing (for enhanced security). If development goes smoothly, the phone is expected to ship around 30 million units in 2027 and 2028.
Industry experts note that AI Agent will fundamentally redefine phones—users no longer need to open apps; instead, they can use the phone to directly complete tasks, changing people's perception of traditional mobile phones.
