OpenAI's Former Tech Chief Testifies: CEO Altman Caused Executive Distrust, Adding New Evidence to Musk's Lawsuit
Mira Murati, former tech chief of OpenAI, testified in Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI, stating that CEO Sam Altman caused distrust among executives by saying conflicting things to different people while the company developed powerful AI software. Murati, who briefly served as OpenAI CEO after Altman's 2023 ousting, said Altman created chaos and sometimes misled her and others.
As a co-founder of OpenAI, Musk sued the company in 2024 for straying from its charitable mission to a profit model, seeking $150 billion in compensation for OpenAI's charity department. Former board member Shivon Zilis noted the board's extreme concern over the lack of communication before ChatGPT's launch. Murati has left OpenAI to start her own AI startup.
