Sam Altman Warns AI Could Slip Out of Human Control
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said on a podcast that AI could go out of control in two ways, sparking discussion about AI safety risks. The first is humans slowly handing control over to autonomous AI. Altman warned that we might give control to systems far smarter than humans, on purpose or by accident, and may never get it back. The other risk is monopoly. He explained that one person, company, or country could become too powerful, and having many AI labs compete is much safer than everyone relying on a single company. This also explains why Elon Musk and former OpenAI executives left to start their own competing companies. Despite these warnings, Altman still believes AI will bring a better future. He thinks the next generation of AI models will help push basic science forward.
