China Plans 95% AI Use in TV and Broadcasting by 2030
China's National Radio and Television Administration has issued a new five-year plan. It sets a goal for the AI adoption rate in the TV and broadcasting industry to reach 95% or more by 2030, with new smart terminals exceeding 150 million.
The plan makes clear this does not mean 95% of what viewers watch will be AI-made. It calls for collecting audio and video data, building AI computing facilities, and developing industry-specific large AI models. Officials also restated their policy on micro-dramas: support real-person dramas, regulate AI ones.
China now has over 800 million micro-drama users, and the market is set to top 100 billion yuan in 2025. In the first eight months of this year, 430,000 micro-dramas were released, 13 times all of last year, with over 90% made using AI. The technology cuts costs but raises concerns about quality and rights protection.
