Airbnb is building a travel AI agent coming in 2027

Home rental platform Airbnb has revealed in its latest quarterly report that it is developing a new AI agent, set to launch in 2027, to help users plan their trips.

Instead of a traditional chat window, the agent uses a library of hundreds of travel-specific interface elements, including maps, photos, comparison info, calendars and itineraries. These can be combined in real time based on user needs, helping guests explore options, decide together with travel companions, and book directly on Airbnb.

Airbnb sees AI as the biggest opportunity in its growth. In the third quarter, about 40% of customer support requests were resolved without human agents, with AI assistants playing a key role in handling support issues.
