SoftBank Adjusts Margin Loan Backed by OpenAI Shares, Cutting Size from $10B to $6B
SoftBank Group has adjusted its margin loan plan backed by OpenAI shares, reducing the target size from $10 billion (about 68.157 billion yuan) to $6 billion, a 40% shrinkage. The loan term is 2 years with an option to extend for a third year; the original plan aimed to raise $10 billion.
Some creditors hesitated due to lack of confidence in the reliable pricing of OpenAI's unlisted equity, leading SoftBank to shrink the financing scale. Such margin loans depend on the valuation stability and liquidity of collateral assets; factors like unlisted equity pricing and disposal efficiency affected creditors' risk judgments.
Negotiations are still ongoing, and the final loan amount may change. SoftBank has not given up on financing but is recalibrating the loan size and terms based on creditor feedback.
