SpaceX rents AI data center cluster to Anthropic for only six months
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said the company only agreed to rent its Colossus AI training data center cluster to Anthropic for six months, but a multi-year partnership is possible. Earlier this year, the two companies struck a deal: Anthropic pays $1.25 billion monthly for computing power at the Colossus and Colossus II data centers in Memphis, Tennessee, originally planned through May 2029. SpaceX filed for an IPO last week. Regulatory filings show either party can terminate the agreement with 90 days' notice, but don't mention the six-month lease. Musk said the short-term lease was SpaceX's request, not Anthropic's idea, and vowed not to leave them in a lurch with a reasonable exit transition, though he may need to reclaim the computing power if resources get tight.
