US states team up to investigate OpenAI
According to the Wall Street Journal, a group of US state attorneys general has formed an alliance to launch a large-scale investigation into AI company OpenAI. OpenAI received a subpoena from the New York Attorney General's office yesterday, requesting documents on advertising, user retention, and consumer data handling.
The subpoena also asks OpenAI to disclose its child safety policies, deep learning model development, and company management rules. This is seen as the latest legal challenge before the company's IPO. Florida previously sued OpenAI, accusing ChatGPT of misleading claims about safety.
An OpenAI spokesperson said AI is a powerful new technology and the company is responsibly bringing its benefits to people. They will take the attorneys general's concerns seriously and plan to communicate constructively with their offices.
