User Jails NordicTrack Treadmill with Claude Code to Skip Subscription
A Reddit user shared that their NordicTrack treadmill with a 10-inch screen still demanded an extra iFIT subscription, even after they paid for streaming services. Daily workouts also meant waiting for loading and seeing ads.
To skip the paywall, the user used the AI coding tool Claude Code to jailbreak the treadmill and turn its big screen into a free streaming interface. The whole process took about a day and a half, and the project is now public on GitHub.
After the change, the device got a custom home screen with Netflix, Crunchyroll, and workout data controls. The fitness features and physical buttons still work, and Netflix now starts in about 21 seconds instead of nearly a minute.
But there are downsides: Netflix only plays in standard definition, a factory reset may remove the changes, and modifying an electric fitness machine can bring safety risks and affect the warranty.
