YouTube updates AI video labels, auto-tags realistic AI content
YouTube announced two updates to its AI video labeling feature. AI labels will be moved to more prominent positions: for long videos, labels appear below the player and above the description; for Shorts, labels appear as an overlay on the video.
The platform requires creators to manually disclose when using realistic AI, but aims to make the process smoother and more reliable. If the system detects obvious realistic AI use but the creator hasn't disclosed it, it will automatically add a label.
Creators can update their disclosure status in YouTube Studio. However, labels will remain permanent in a few cases, including content made with YouTube's own AI tools like Veo or Dream Screen, and content with C2PA metadata showing it's fully AI-generated.
